Think about the Megalodon teeth that were recovered from West Java, Indonesia. About 20 million years ago warm marine habitats were common in the dry regions of today. Megalodons and other marine creatures lived in these prehistoric seas, along with Megalodons.
Megalodon also shed teeth in a similar manner like modern sharks. Some of them eventually found their way into marine sediments. If the conditions are right, burial can protect them long enough to allow fossilization.
